Maple Lawn in Howard County, MarylandMaple Lawn is a mixed-used development in the southeastern corner of Howard County. Maple Lawn is considered a "Traditional Neighborhood Development", with an emphasis on making life a little more "walkable". Many of the homes are placed closely together and close to the street. The residential district is currently accessible off Johns Hopkins Road, just across the street from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. The community is less than a mile from Route 29, making access to the north (Columbia and Baltimore) and to the south (the Washington, DC area) a breeze. The Maple Lawn community web site offers a site plan for current and future residential development.
Coming to Maple Lawn off of Scaggsville Road you can visit the early phases of the commercial district. There are a few stores already open, a couple of restaurants, plus some 3-story office buildings. View the area around Maple Lawn with this interactive map (as of 3/8/06 this map didn't yet show the Maple Lawn streets, it's in the area between Scaggsville Road and Johns Hopkins Road, east of Reservoir High School). The Maple Lawn development site contains a comprehensive site plan for the full community.
Townhomes and detached single-family homes are in the plan for Maple
Lawn. Builders involved in constructing the homes of Maple Lawn are Mitchell
and Best, and Miller and Smith. Buying
