The value of real estate and homes in Laurel have seen significant growth in recent years as the central location and nearby amenities have become more well-known. Proximity to major north-south roads is a big factor, with easy access to both Washington and Baltimore via I-95, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, Route 1 and Route 29.

The oldest neighborhoods in Laurel are those closest to the old town center and Main Street. While most of the homes in this area have been there for decades, there have been some new single-family homes, condominiums, and apartment complexes built in more recent years.

Villages at Wellington is a high-end housing development currently being built on the southwestern side of town, along both sides of Van Dusen Road. Wellington is considered a preliminary step toward the development of Konterra, a very ambitious 2200 acre residential, commercial and retail project in the area between Laurel and Beltsville.

Emerson Emerson is a new 570 acre planned community with over 200 acres set aside as 'permanent open space'. The community straddles I-95 and is bounded on the north by Gorman Road and on the south by Scaggsville Road (Route 216). Access to I-95 has been recently improved with the addition of a new entrance to the community off Route 216 via an extension of Stephens Road. More information
Central Parke at Victoria Falls Central Parke at Victoria Falls, in the southern part of Laurel, is called a '55+ resort community' (meaning that it's for the retired and semi-retired among us). This community features a growing number of homes in a compact site design, all with convenient access to the community's amenities and those of the Laurel area. More information
Russett Russett is a large community of townhomes, condominiums, apartments and single-family homes located adjacent to Route 198 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Construction began on Russett in the 1990's and continues to grow along it's northern boundaries. More information
Laurel Lakes Most of the homes in Laurel Lakes were built in the 1980's and 1990's, mostly townhomes and condominiums. The community is located behind (to the west of) the Laurel Lakes Shopping Center and is accessible from Route 1 via Cypress Street and Mulberry Street or from Cherry Lane via Ashford Boulevard.
