Annapolis Real Estate

Annapolis Maryland State Capital Building Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, home of the U.S. Naval Academy and a favorite spot for those who love to sail - one of the most "liveable" cities in Maryland. Both historic and thriving, with growth driven by the state government and businesses who have chosen to locate in Annapolis for the benefits provided by it's location and amenities.

Places To Live In The
Annapolis Area

Downtown Annapolis: The historic district of downtown Annapolis is a popular tourist destination, with the capital building, the U.S. Naval Academy, the city dock, and many old homes all within walking distance of each other.

Eastport: From the dock in downtown Annapolis you look across the bridge into Eastport, home of the area's most rabid sailors.

Park Place: Seven story condominium, luxury hotel, offices, retail and more, just a few blocks from historic downtown Annapolis.

Riva: Lots of growth in recent years in the areas adjacent to Riva Road in the northwest part of town.

South River and Edgewater: Some of the most expensive homes in the state lie along the shores of the South River, while a little farther south you'll find the growing Edgewater area.

Crownsville and Herald Harbor: A couple miles north of Annapolis, near the state fairgrounds and in an interesting little community tucked in a nook off the Severn River.

Arnold: For lack of a better name, this is what we'll call the area north of the Severn River near Annapolis, not too far from Route 50 on the way to the Bay Bridge.

About Annapolis

Annapolis is Maryland's state capital and was founded in 1649. It also served as the U.S. capital in 1783. Maryland's state capital building is the oldest in the country and was built in 1772. It's also been home to the U.S. Naval Academy since 1845.

Annapolis commercial life is still very much centered on the historic district, although there are very active commercial and retail areas in the newer parts of the city and nearby communities. Downtown has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, hotels, and other businesses located in buildings that have been around for 100 or more years.

The second major hub of commercial activity is around the Annapolis Mall (formally known as the Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis - but only called that by someone looking to impress the CEO of Westfield). Lots of shopping, eating, and entertainment in this area near Route 50. Nearby, the planned Annapolis Town Centre at Parole (another mouthful) will add significantly to the commercial activity in the neighborhood.

The city of Annapolis is governed by a city council consisting of a mayor and eight alderman, each representing one of the city's eight wards. Anne Arundel County is a big one, stretching from south of Annapolis all the way north to Baltimore. The county has an elected County Executive and County Council, with representatives from each of the county's seven districts.
